Cafe_D_2017s Best Moments in Coffee

This year, like most years throughout recorded history, has meant a lot of different things to a lot of different people, and while we know our own experiences inform how we perceive the world around us and how we do (or do not) interact with our fellow human beings, we also know there is one inescapable element that unites us—and that element is coffee. Coffee brought us together for some of the most memorable moments of the last year—let’s look back at these moments together and remember that regardless of the state of the world in 2017, coffee was always, really, truly, there for us.

Starbucks Premiers The Unicorn Frappuccino

In what was one of the most internet-hyped food releases of the year, this purple/blue/turquoise/pink sugar bomb dominated most of our social media feeds for at least a week (which is an eternity in internet time). The meme peaked with a gif of pop star Katy Perry sipping and immediately spitting out the multicolored slush after looking into a camera and saying, “It’s like taking a sip of myself.”

Agent Cooper Returns, For Coffee

Twin Peaks fans rejoiced (or grimaced-depending on the fan) with the news that the long-loved, sleeper soap opera would be resurrected for short run on cable television. Sure enough, 90s kids from coast to coast squealed when Agent Cooper once again crossed the threshold of the Double R for “cherry pie and damn good coffee.”

The Oregon Trail Gets A Hipster Makeover (from FoodandWine.com)

“… Travel Oregon recently unveiled an ultra-modern version of everyone’s favorite old-school computer game, The Oregon Trail. …(T)he web title features artisanal coffee, craft beer, and kombucha alongside a rotating cast of yoga teachers, Willamette Valley winemakers, and heritage apple farmers.”
