Pumpkin Spice Latte Near Me
Wednesday, September 12, 2018The Pumpkin Spice Latte is a coffee drink made with a mix of traditional fall spice flavors (cinnamon, nutmeg, and clove), steamed milk, and espresso, topped with whipped cream and pumpkin pie spice. Since 2015, it has also contained a small amount of pumpkin puree.
This year marks the earliest release of Pumpkin Spice Latte. But apparantly for some, August 24th is just too soon to roll out the pumpkin spice lattes and thus 2018 will be known as the year of the Pumpkin Spice Latte Backlash. And the backlash to the backlash is that fall comes sooner for Portland and Gresham residents, so there is no “too soon” for the Pumpkin Spiced Latte.
Come into Café D to celebrate the coming fall and enjoy a Pumpkin Spice Latte. Now that the rain is back, it’s selling like hotcakes. It’s hard to imagine a time before Pumpkin Spice Lattes were a thing. But we can warm up the Wayback Machine and time travel to the very beginning.
2003: THE YEAR PUMPKIN SPICE LATTE WAS BORN
Starbucks already had success with other seasonal drinks like the Peppermint Mocha and the Eggnog Latte when Pumpkin Spice Latte was first developed. Created in their “Liquid Lab,” the Pumpkin Spice Latte was almost dead on arrival. The flavor was great during testing but was considered too good and overpowering—seemingly having less coffee-ness to it than many of the other espresso beverages. The brand manager fought for it and as soon as it was released they could not keep up with the sales. It is still extremely popular year-after-year and this is why you are seeing it available so early in the fall.
Coffee shops are far from alone in the embrace of pumpkin spice. Pumpkin spice flavored products is now a $500 million dollar industry. Breweries abound with pumpkin ales, there are pumpkin M&Ms this fall, and several distilleries are making pumpkin flavored whiskey. It’s even moved over into the regular fragrance world, notes Yahoo News, with offerings of pumpkin spice lotion, shampoo, and candles.
