CAFE, COFFEE SHOP, COFFEE HOUSE, OR COFFEE BAR?

Aren’t these just different names for the same thing? There is actually a difference according to those who care. We break down the definition of each one below.

A CAFÉ HAS ALMOST EVERYTHING

At a café, Like Café Delirium, you can get all sorts of delicious coffee concoctions. You can also usually find a selection of paninis, breakfast sandwiches, and smoothies. A café has the largest selction of food and beverages.

COFFEE SHOP IS KINDA LIKE A DINER

The retro diner that is frequented by the cast in almost every episode of Seinfeld would be considered a coffee shop. The opening set of Natural Born Killers and Reservoir Dogs are also considered coffee shops.

A COFFEE HOUSE MAY INCLUDE ENTERTAINMEMT

Coffee and the usual caffeine fair is available at a coffee house, but it is usually secondary to the entertainment. Think open mic nights, poetry slams, and live local music.

COFFE BAR IS MOSTLY JUST COFFEE

Although many coffee bars have expanded their options, a coffee bar is focused primarily on espresso and a great cup of joe. The other options that are made available are just to round out the menu.
