A Brief History Of Iced Coffee
The earliest known version of iced coffee was developed by the French military during the battle of Mazagran. French soldiers were stationed in Algeria for 17 years as they fought Arab and Berber forces. Throughout that period, they ran out of milk and instead added water to their coffee. They also began to drink it cold to combat the heat. Upon returning home, Mazagran veterans suggested to local cafes that they add this new coffee drink to their menus – and they did! This cold coffee drink became known as cafe mazagran.
